Our perceptions of the world drive what we think about the world. Perceptions are something that can be changed if we have a mind that is open to seeing the big picture.

It is disagreement that most people don’t like about our governmental system but it is this disagreement that is the strength of our political system. By advocating for the policies and people we believe in, we have inputs into our system.

Acceptance of negative things in the world is important to be able to feel that our life is abundant. If we accept the turmoil of politics as reported in the news, it can open our eyes to many of the great things going on in the world.

A spiritual practice needs to go beyond a conversation, or beliefs, to the level of compassion for the world and everyone and everything in the world. It is through our compassion that we spread love.

The media coverage and/or the sensational nature of an event makes us see things as more negative. If we can put what happens in perspective with history and with what is really happening in everyday life, we can realize the normal positive nature of that every day life.

It is apparent that the amount of violence in American Politics has decreased since the days of duels and a Civil War. Politicians are more civil today than they were throughout most of the history of the United States.

There can be a point when we serve others so much that we deny our own needs and feelings. At the same time, if we don’t engage in activities that help others and that serve the greater good, we will probably have a hard time finding happiness.
